Meal train sign-up

When a friend has a new baby, an illness or a loss, home-cooked meals are one of the kindest things a group can offer. A meal train spreads the cooking over days, so the family is looked after without being overwhelmed.

How it works

  1. Start from the template. The slots are already filled in. Change names, dates and spots to fit your plans.
  2. Share one link. Send it by WhatsApp, email or text. People open it on any phone or computer.
  3. Watch it fill up. Everyone picks a slot and types their name. Full slots close automatically, and a waitlist catches anyone who missed out.

What to include

One slot per day with one spot works for most meal trains. The template sets up ten days starting tomorrow, and you can extend it as long as needed.

In the description, share what the family needs to know: drop-off time, the address or how to get it, allergies and dislikes, and how many people are eating. Keep personal details to what helpers really need.

Being considerate

Suggest disposable containers so nobody has to return dishes. Ask helpers to drop off quietly rather than stay to visit, unless the family says otherwise.

Consider switching off "Everyone can see who signed up" if the family prefers privacy. You can still see all names.

Questions

Can people sign up anonymously?

They need to enter a name so the family knows who's coming, but a first name is enough. You can hide names from other helpers.

What if someone can't make their day?

They can remove their sign-up so someone else can take the day.

Is the meal train private?

Only people with the link can see it, and it's hidden from search engines.
